Jim O'Hare - Club Captain 2022

I am very proud to have been appointed Club Captain of Mickleover Golf Club for 2022.
I have been a member of the club for 10 years, with 7 years as Club Treasurer and 6 as a member of the Board of Directors. It has been a pleasure to serve a club that has made me feel so welcome from the very start. I did not know any of the other members when I first joined but very soon had a long list of “friends” happy to let me join them for a round.

I am a qualified Chartered Accountant but now work as an Associate Professor at the University of Leicester. A full time but flexible job that does not prevent me from playing a lot of golf and will not hinder me in carrying out my duties as Captain.

All of my family have been made welcome at the club. Daughters Grace and Georgina (and her partner Dan) have all worked for the club and my wife Sarah has now taken up the game and become a member. It was my late father who introduced me to golf at an early age and our centenary, next year, will be extra special as he was also born in 1923.

The Lady Captain, Tracy Bright, and I have chosen to raise money for The Derbyshire Air Ambulance in 2022. I am sure we will have lots of support for the many social and golfing events we hope to hold throughout the year.

Let us all hope we can have an uninterrupted year of golf and that all our members and their families stay fit and healthy in 2022.

Tracy Bright - Lady Captain 2022

On behalf of the Ladies Committee and section welcome to Mickleover Golf Club. I am this year’s Lady Captain. I was absolutely thrilled to be asked, it’s such a great honour. I joined the club in 2017, having only recently started playing golf. I was immediately made to feel welcome by all members but particularly by the Ladies Section.

We aim to be inclusive and encouraging to golfers of all abilities. We even have a lovely Lady Assistant Pro who would be more than happy to help with lessons.

We offer a full diary of Ladies’ competitions. We have an annual 2 night away break which this year is at a Hawkstone Park plus an away day which will be at Hinckley. We also enjoy playing in the Mixed Knockout and Mixed Winter League with our fellow male golfers. The Ladies v Gents is always well contested. The “after golf” is excellent with endless cups of tea and lots of chit chat and even the odd G &T!

The club has excellent bar and restaurant facilities and there are many social events which take place during the year to support both the club and our chosen charity which this year is the Derbyshire Air Ambulance. Events include music nights, beer festivals and quizzes.

I look forward to welcoming you to the club as either a member, a new member or at one of our many social events or at one of our Ladies Open.

Thank you and Happy Golfing.

Tracy Bright
