I am extremely honoured to represent Mickleover Golf Club and the members as the Captain for 2025. I am also looking forward to carrying on the positive work of previous Captains.
I have been a golf member since 2010 although frequenting the bar for a number of years before this. From the day I joined myself and my family have all been made to feel welcome within the MGC Family.
Over the years I have seen the club develop from strength to strength not only on the course, which is maintained by our excellent Greens Staff, through the move to a more family friendly and inclusive club.
Our fantastic club house team managed by Julie, our wonderful 2025 Lady Captain, who always has a warm welcome for golfers and non-golfers alike, and this will always be the case in 2025 with the packed social programme we both have planned throughout the year.
I give thanks to outgoing captain Charlie Harris for his time at the helm in 2024 and to the club for entrusting me as Charlie’s Vice Captain and believing in me to be the Captain for 2025.
I gave thanks to all the Committee members who give a huge amount of their time to make sure the club continues to thrive and grow all of whom are volunteers and to our Club Professional of over 30 years who assists the development of the club in being one of Derby’s little Gems.
This year the Lady Captain and I have decided to split all funds raised this year between our chosen charity the Derby and Burton Hospitals Charity and the Mickleover Golf Club Course Development Programme. We feel both causes will benefit every member within the club.
We hope the above will encourage you to visit our charming course and excellent facilities, and I look forward to welcoming everyone to Mickleover Golf Club this year, whether playing golf or frequenting the bar for a drink and a meal with family and friends.
Carl Vernon
Captain 2025
It is a true honour to be elected as Lady Captain for 2025. Mickleover Golf Club has been a huge part of my life for some time now, starting part-time in July 2008 before being made Clubhouse Manager in October 2009. For over 16 years I have had the real pleasure to welcome all members and the thousands of golfers and guests who visit our fantastic golf course.
My golfing career is relatively new, gaining my first official handicap in 2019. Over the last 5 years I have had the privilege to play with our wonderful Ladies’ section, and in more recent times in the inclusive competition format. Every member has been very supportive throughout.
This year, myself and Mr Captain have chosen to split all raised funds between Derby and Burton Hospitals Charity and the Mickleover Golf Course development programme. I would therefore like to thank you all in advance for your contributions, they really are massively appreciated and will make a real impact.
Finally, I would like to pass on my sincere thanks to all members and guests who support our year. Mickleover Golf Club really is an excellent place to play, drink, eat and socialise. I can’t wait to see you all throughout the year.
All the very best,
Julie Hanks (Cottrell)
