GENERAL RULES

Competition entry will be via the BRS Online Booking System 10 days before competition date. Tee times go ‘live’ on the Clubhouse terminal at 7.30pm and online at 8.00pm with alternating tee times for Saturday individual competitions and Clover Cup, and Texas Scrambles. Changes can be made up to 8pm the day before the competition, after which the Professional should be informed directly. Play outside the competition slots is not permitted under any circumstance.

For individual competitions entry on start sheet limited to own name and one other, for pairs competitions, enter own pair and one other pair. All competitors are responsible for their start time whether entered by themselves or others.

Handicaps - Please note that members must have a "competition handicap" for all Major competitions, which are defined at the end of this document. For all other competitions a CONGU handicap is required. Any “supplementary score” rounds submitted for handicap purposes must be registered in the Professional’s shop prior to the round. Supplementary scores may also be submitted over 9 holes, although to retain a competition handicap, 54 holes must still be recorded (i.e. the equivalent of 3 x 18 hole scores).

Competitors should be signed in at least five minutes before their due start time.
If unable to play in competition, competitors should notify playing partners and Professional at the earliest opportunity. Failure to turn up or not to have not notified either of the above, may result in a three week ban from Club competitions, starting one week and one day from the date of the competition.

In all 18 hole competitions, competitors must start from the 1st tee. Starting arrangements for 36 hole competitions may vary depending on the number of entrants in the competition.

It is a condition of entry to all competitions that prizes will be received in person at the scheduled presentation. Failure to meet this condition will result in loss of prize
Sweepstakes - in all cup competitions there will be an optional Sweepstake to be taken by the winner to assist in the “filling of the trophy”.
 
In all competitions an optional sweepstake is run by the Professional.

Any competitions queries must be referred immediately in writing, to the Competition Committee; placing any communication in the competition box.

CAPTAIN’S PRIZE
18 hole medal; handicap limit 20; played in one division. In the event of ties the competition will be decided over the last 9, 6, 3, 2 or 1 holes.

VICE-PRESIDENTS’ SCRATCH CUP
36 hole medal; off scratch. In the event of ties, the competition shall be decided by a play-off over 3 holes (1, 8,18). If still undecided, a sudden death play-off will take place over the same 3 holes.

MEDAL CUP
36 holes medal; handicap limit 20. To be played on the same day as Vice-President’s Scratch Cup. In the event of tie, winners will be decided on count back on the 2nd 18 holes, (18, 9, 6, 3, 2, 1).

PRESIDENT’S PUTTER
18 hole medal; off scratch. In the event of ties, the competition shall be decided by a play-off over 3 holes (1, 8, 18). If still undecided, a sudden death play-off will take place over the same 3 holes.

SALT/BAUM/SYDNEY BRADLEY & WELLS CUP
18 hole medal; handicap limit 20. Played in one division. Ties will be decided on count back basis for the Captain’s Prize. A separate prize will be awarded for handicap range 21-28.

CLOVER FOURSOMES’ CUP
18 hole foursomes medal; handicap limit 20. Allowance half of combined handicaps of partnership. Ties shall be decided on a count back basis as for the Captain’s Prize.

SENIORS’ CHAMPIONSHIP
18 hole stableford; handicap limit 36; Players must be 55 years of age on the day of the competition. This will be played as 3 individual Stableford competitions during the season, with the best two scores from three counting towards the Seniors’ Championship. In the event of ties, winners will be determined on the better card, or count back on the better cards.

INVITATION DAYS
18 hole fourball better ball stableford; handicap limit 36;
 Allowance 90% of the individual partners handicaps. Ties will be decided on a count-back basis over last 9, 6, 3, 2 or 1 holes. 

MEDALS AND STABLEFORDS
18 holes; handicap limit 36; The winner, runner-up and all ties with the runner-up will qualify to play in the final of the respective competition. In the event of any of the above having qualified, no other player will be substituted. The finals will be played in one division with a handicap limit of 20, in the event of ties prizes will be as for the Captain’s prize.

MEN’S DAYS
Events will be decided on a count-back basis as for the Captain’s Prize.

FOURSOMES
18 hole medal; handicap limit 36. Allowance half combined. Ties will be decided as for normal Medal rounds.

GREENSOME FOURSOMES
18 hole medal; handicap limit 36. Allowance – (lower handicap x 0.6) plus  (higher handicap x 0.4)

HARKINS’ TROPHY
The Trophy will be presented to the player or players achieving the lowest score relative to standard scratch score of the day for seven of the eleven 18 hole medal competitions. The winner shall hold the trophy for the subsequent year. Ties will share the trophy, holding it for equal periods of time. Qualifying competitions are: Five Medals, Final and Consolation Medals, Salt Cup, Baum Cup, Sydney Bradley Cup, Wells Cup and the Captain’s Prize.

ECLECTIC COMPETITION
This competition will be played in four divisions off handicap, run over the eleven medal competitions as in the Harkins Trophy, plus the 6 weekday medals, Men's Day, Vice President’s Scratch Cup and Medal Cup. As hole-by-hole scores will be taken from the computer programme, no markings are necessary on individual score cards. Nett scores at each hole to count at the handicap on the day played. Ties will be decided on a count back as for the Captain’s Prize.

KNOCKOUT COMPETITIONS
All the knockout competitions below, with the exception of the Senior’s 4BBB knockout and Mixed Foursomes knockout are only eligible to 7 day and 6 day members. All matches involving 5 day members up to the final must be played in midweek.

Entry fees must be paid in the Professional’s shop before being included in the draw for any knock-out events. All competitors must play off current playing handicaps.
It is a condition of entry to all Knock Out competitions that any member who finds he/she cannot play on Finals Day at any stage during the competition, should forfeit their current match. The only exceptions to this are players who are representing their Country, County or Club at golf on Finals Day itself. With this possible exception, all finals detailed below will be played on Finals Day on the date published in the fixture list. All matches must be played by the deadline date for the round. No extensions will be permitted under any circumstance.
 
CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP
A preliminary medal round to be played to determine seeded players. The President’s Putter to be used as qualifying round and the top seven players who have entered Club Championship, plus current champion, will be seeded in order of finishing in the President’s Putter, In the event of tie or ties, final places will be decided on count back basis. Current champion will be seeded one.18 holes match play knock-out off scratch, all rounds up to and including the semi finals. The final will be played over 36 holes. Should any match be all square after 18 holes (36 holes in final) the winner will be determined by a sudden death play-off.

MICKLEOVER CUP
18 holes match play knock-out off handicap. Handicap limit bona fide 18 on entry. Handicaps to be as at date of playing with maximum of 18. Allowance - full difference between opponent’s handicaps. All rounds up to and including the semi-finals will be played over 18 holes. If undecided after 18 holes, a further round or rounds will be played. Alternatively the opponents may agree to decide the match on a sudden death basis. The final will be played over 36 holes and if undecided, the winner to be decided by a sudden death play-off.

MICKLEOVER PLATE
18 holes match play knock-out off handicap. Handicap limit bona fide minimum of 19 on entry. Handicaps to be as at date of playing. Allowance full difference between opponent’s handicaps. All rounds up to and including the semi-finals will be played over 18 holes. If undecided after 18 holes, a further round or rounds will be played. Alternatively the opponents may agree to decide the match on a sudden death basis. The final will be played over 36 holes and, if undecided, the winner to be decided by a sudden death play-off.

SENIORS’ FOUR BALL BETTER BALL KNOCKOUT TROPHY
18 holes four ball better ball match play off handicap. Players must be 55 years of age on the closing date for entries. Handicap limit 28. Allowance 90% difference to lowest handicap. All rounds up to and including the semi-final to be played over 18 holes. If undecided after 18 holes, a further round or rounds to be played. Alternatively the opponents may agree to decide match on a sudden death basis. The final to be played over 18 holes and if undecided at that time, the winners to be determined by a sudden death play-off. 
Final to be played on Finals Day.

KNOCKOUT FOURSOMES’ TROPHY
18 holes match play knockout foursomes off handicap. Handicap limit 20. Allowance one-half of the difference of the combined handicaps of the partnership. All rounds up to and including the semi-finals will be played over 18 holes. If undecided after 18 holes, a further round or rounds will be played. Alternatively the opponents may agree to decided the match on a sudden death basis. The final will be played over 36 holes and if undecided at that time the winners to be decided by sudden death playoff.

MIXED FOURSOMES’ KNOCKOUT TROPHY
18 holes match play knockout foursomes off handicap. Handicap limit Gentlemen 20, Ladies 30. Allowances one half of the difference of the combined handicaps of the partnership. All rounds including the semi-finals to be played over 18 holes. If undecided after 18 holes a further round or rounds will be played or, alternatively, the opponents may agree to decide the match on sudden death play-off. The final to be played over 18 holes on Finals day, and if undecided at that time the winners to be determined by sudden death play-off.

FAMILY CUP                                                      
Married Couples/Civil Partners.

“FATHER & SON” INVITATION FOURSOMES
18 hole greensome foursomes medal under handicap. Limit 36 (men), 36 (Ladies). Allowance - (lower handicap x 0.6) plus (higher handicap x 0.4).Open to any father/mother/son daughter combination including members from other clubs with an active CONGU handicap (At least one player in each pair must be a home member).

MIXED FOURSOMES
18 holes medal play off handicap. Limit: men 36, ladies 36. Allowance half combined. Ties for prizes shall be decided on a count back as for Captain’s Prize. The winners, runners up and all ties with the runners-up will qualify for the Final Mixed Foursomes. In the event of any of the above having already qualified, substitutes will be allowed to allow a minimum of two couples to qualify from each competition.

Note: For this social event the competition will be played under the R&A Rules of Golf except for the following:
Playing on the course before the competition and sheltering in bad weather will be allowed.
Note:  In mixed foursomes a player may play with more than one partner in the qualifying rounds, but his or her first qualifying partnership will be the one to count for the final.

FINAL MIXED FOURSOMES
This is not classed as a social event and will be played under the R&A Rules of Golf. In the event of ties, these shall be decided as the conditions for medal play competitions.

JUNIOR MEMBERS
The official handicap for Juniors to play in those competitions for which they are eligible is as follows:
Club Junior Competitions - handicap limit 36. Speed Junior Cup, Mickleover Junior Open, Captain’s Prize (Captain’s discretion) handicap limit 36 (boys) and 36 (girls). 

Juniors may play in all club competitions including the Final Medal, Stableford and Mixed Foursomes for which they may have qualified. Juniors may not play in Major Cups and Men’s Weekend. 

Junior boys are allowed to play in the two scratch competitions; President’s Putter and Vice-President’s Scratch Cup. 

Junior girls refer to the Ladies competition rules. Only one Junior is allowed to play in a single (3 ball) club competitions and 2 Juniors per block in pairs (4 ball competitions).

CADET MEMBERS
Cadet members are only allowed to play in Junior and Entertainment competitions; handicap limit 36.

CHILD PROTECTION
Members are requested to be aware of the Club Child Protection Policy and to act in an appropriate manner in the presence of minors.

MATCH PLAY
Singles: full difference between the handicaps of the two players
Foursomes: one half of the difference between the aggregate handicaps on either side.
Four-ball: lowest handicap player to concede strokes to other three players on 90% of the difference between the full handicaps.

STROKE PLAY
Qualifying Competitions: full handicap.
Singles: full handicap
Foursomes: one half of aggregate handicaps of the partners.
Four-ball: each partner receives three quarters of the full handicap.

STABLEFORD COMPETITIONS
Qualifying Competitions: full handicap.
Singles: full handicap.
Foursomes: seven sixteenths of aggregate handicaps of the partners.
Four-balls: each partner receives 90% of the full handicap.

BOGEY OR PAR COMPETITIONS
Qualifying Competitions: full handicap.
Singles: full handicap.
Foursomes: one half of the aggregate handicaps of the partners.
Four-ball: each partner receives 90% of the full handicap.
